Tartan Day 2026
Mary Beth Sutherland, President, and Susan Chisholm, member of the Canadian Association of Clan Sutherland, attended the 2026 Tartan Day celebration in Halifax, NS.
The Pipes and Drums of Clan Farquharson provided music at the beginning of the afternoon.
Mary Beth Sutherland, Jean Watson and Susan Chisholm are pictured together during the event. Jean Watson, the “Mother of Tartan Day” spoke about her letter-writing campaign to bring interest to politicians and individuals across Canada to recognize the contributions of Scots to our country and encourage people to wear tartan on April 6th to celebrate our culture. This new tradition then spread to other countries around the world.
An interesting part of the afternoon was the “Best Knees Contest “, those willing to participate displayed their knees to the judges, the winner received a bottle of whisky!
The afternoon ended with singing from Alastair Mac Donald and Bruce Stewart.
